The use of biomass pellets has increased significantly during the last few years. As the winter is approaching, we need to store large amounts of pellet fuel for heating to get warm. Store the pellets in good condition can protect the pellets from getting damp and breaking apart.
Pellets must be transported and stored in dry condition. If the biomass pellets are exposed in the humid environment, they will absorb the water, and then get swell, which severely affects the combustion efficiency in the pellet stove or pellet boiler, even though the pellet fuel is produced by the best pellet mill. High moisture content also promotes microbiological decay and this can result in dangerous conditions, such as self-heating and self-ignition. Due to the high bulk density, pellets only require half the space as conventional firewood. It should be noted that a well-structured pellet storeroom is extremely important if it is to be ensured that the pellets do not break down into dust when filling. Therefore, we need to attach great importance to the storage.

Bag
The most common storage method is using plastic bags, and each can contain 10-20Kg pellets, which is convenient for customers to feed the pellets into the pellet stove or boiler. The bags are usually made by plastic cloth with many layers and two seamed ends. Bags are mainly used by small-scale pellet consumers.
Bulk Storage
If you are tired of feeding your appliance every day or two and hauling heavy bags, you can switch to bulk storage. Bulk storage makes using biomass pellets more convenient. You don’t need to rip open countless plastic bags and dump them into your stove or the hopper of your boiler/furnace. There’s no hauling, no plastic-bag waste, and the pellets won’t break down during the handling. What’s more, it’s nearly dust-free because the bulk-storage container is sealed.
Silo
Silo is an ideal choice to store the biomass pellets outside. The silo is waterproof and it allows for automatic delivery into heating system. The waterproof top allows you to check inside or fill it. It can be viewed through the sight glass in the mid section of the container.
Another form of silo is sack silo, also called flexible silo. It is made of technical fabrics and optimally suited for storing biomass pellets. Sack silo is made of very strong and durable high-tech polyester fabric. The flexible walls make sure that the pellets are filled gently.
No matter what kind of storage measure do we use, as long as it can keep the pellets fuel intact and dry, then it can be taken into consideration to store biomass pellets.
